FAQ
How does selling to Fil work?
Scan your cards. Use your phone’s camera, no app download or account. Scan a binder, a box or a single card.
See my offer. You get an estimated offer range on the spot, based on current market prices.
Send it to me. I look over every list myself and get back to you with an official offer.
What cards do you buy?
I buy vintage Pokémon, and I know it well.
WOTC era, Base Set through Aquapolis: Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, Base Set 2, Team Rocket, Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge, the Neo sets, Legendary Collection, Expedition, Aquapolis, and WOTC promos.
Some mid-era sets. Scan them and I’ll let you know.
English and Japanese. Japanese vintage is welcome.
Raw singles, graded slabs and sealed product. Holos, 1st Editions, Shadowless, PSA/BGS/CGC slabs, booster packs and boxes.
Do you buy modern cards?
Modern cards. If it’s not vintage, I’m not the right buyer.
Not sure where your cards fall? Scan them anyway. Anything I can’t price automatically gets marked so I can quote it myself.
Do you buy Japanese cards?
Yes. I buy Japanese vintage as well as English.
Do you buy graded cards and sealed product?
Yes: PSA, BGS and CGC slabs, plus sealed packs and boxes from the vintage era.
Do my cards need to be graded first?
No. Raw cards are welcome. I’ll judge condition when I review them.
How much will you offer?
Usually 70–90% of current market value. The range you see after scanning is an estimate, and lots that are mostly high-end cards sit at the top of that range.
My official offer comes after I review your list, and I confirm condition on the actual cards.
Is the offer binding?
No. Sending your list is just asking for an offer — there’s no obligation on either side until we agree on a price, and sending me your list doesn’t commit you to anything.
How do I get paid?
Local (San Diego): I pay on the spot when we meet, by cash, PayPal, Venmo or Zelle.
Shipped: I pay once we agree on the price, through PayPal Goods & Services, so the deal is protected. The fee is already built into my offer.
Can I sell to you locally in San Diego?
Yes. Most of my deals are local — we meet up, I look the cards over in person, and you get paid right there. You can also find me at San Diego card shows.
Can I sell if I’m not in San Diego?
Yes. I buy from sellers worldwide — you ship the cards and cover shipping and insurance.
What happens if you don’t take some cards?
You can pull anything you don’t want to sell before sending. If a shipped card doesn’t match what we agreed on, I return it at your cost.
What if some cards can’t be priced?
Some cards, often Japanese or rare variants, don’t have a reliable market price. They’re marked “Unpriced — Fil quotes”, and I’ll quote them myself when I review your list.
I have an old childhood binder — can I sell it?
That old binder or shoebox from the ’90s is exactly what I’m looking for.
You don’t need to sort it or know what anything is worth. Scan it, and the scanner identifies each card and its set.
Look for the details that change value: a black “1st Edition” stamp on the left under the art, no shadow along the right edge of the art box on Base Set cards (Shadowless), and holo cards with the shiny artwork.
Condition matters, but played cards still have value. Don’t clean, flatten or “fix” anything before you scan. Send it as it is.
Mixed lots are fine. If there’s modern mixed in, scan the vintage and leave the rest.
Any tips for scanning?
Scan in good, even light. Daylight or a bright room works best, and avoid glare on holos.
Lay cards flat on a plain, dark surface, one at a time.
Sleeved cards are fine. Slabs scan best with the label visible.
Check the list before sending. You can fix a wrong match or remove cards you want to keep.
Do I need an account?
No. Scan your cards and send me the list. You can create a free account afterward if you want to come back and scan more.
Who is Fil?
I’m a lifelong Pokémon collector, and vintage is what I know best: the WOTC sets, 1st Edition and Shadowless prints, and Japanese vintage.
I vend at San Diego card shows as Fillswitch Collects, and I built FoilFactor to price vintage cards the way I do at my table.
When you send me a list, a collector reviews it, not a kiosk.
